John Stewart, her father, is a stage manager and TV producer. Her mother is an Australian, Jules Mann Stewart, who is a script supervisor and filmmaker. She has an older brother, Cameron B. Stewart, and two adopted brothers, Dana and Taylor.

Raised in the coastal area of Los Angeles, California, Kristen Stewart is the daughter of John Stewart, a stage manager and FOX's television producer, who co-produced the Ryan Seacrest.

Her mother filed for a divorce in after 27 years of marriage. Kristen grew up in the San Fernando Valley. She continued her education at a distance until she graduated from high school as she became more involved in acting. She attended local schools until she was in the seventh grade. Stewart thought she would become a screenwriter or a director because her family worked in the entertainment industry as non-actors.
